Listener-Focused Talking

,

One of the listening principles that plays a crucial role in coaching is listening with a focus on the other person.

I think another concept that’s just as important is listener-focused talking. I’d like to elaborate on this.

In this kind of conversation, two things happen:

1) you sense what the other person will understand from what they hear, and you choose words, tone of voice, and facial expressions that are tailored to ensure they get the meaning you intend.

2) you sense what the other person might not want to hear (even though you planned or wanted to say it), and you hold it – you do not “overspeak”.

I wish everyone enjoyable listener-focused talking. The whole world needs better communication.

Stay smurfy!
